Your Own Business
Our generation has created this idea of having their own business so they can either be their own boss, make their own money or decide their own working hours.I get it!
We often don’t like the idea of working for someone. Receiving orders and ending up doing the same thing, day in and day out. It gets boring.
But in reality it takes so much more to own a business and yet alone start one. It’s not rocket science, but it takes a lot effort. Often more than we realize. It really takes a certain mindset and drive to start and actually keep the business going.
Working with Small and Medium Sized Business Owners has thought me a lot about business in general. When meeting these Business Owners the first time they all have the exact same question:
“How do I start my own business?”
As I said earlier, it’s not rocket science so here are a few tips:
1. Stop making excuses
So many people dream of becoming an Entrepreneur, but they never do. That’s because they come up with so many excuses as to why they can’t start. From money to having no time to the countless responsibilities they have. But let’s face it!
Becoming a Business Owner is scary, because there’s often a lot to lose, I know. But worrying about the risk at hand is normal.
The reality, however, is that excuses slow you down from reaching your goal. Find solutions to the excuses you create in your mind. You’ll soon discover that it’s easier than you think.
2. Create Value
One of the reasons people start a business is because of the money they want to make. But rather than focusing on making money, think about what value your business will create. Your start up should fill a customer’s need in a certain market or niche.
For example, I didn’t create Arthem Consultancy to just make money, I want to help young Business Owners thrive in their own success. Therefore, creating value in each market they choose to operate in.
Try and understand your target audience and give value to their needs!
3. Your target audience
Before starting your business, you should know who your target audience is. Meaning, you should know to who you will sell your product or provide your service to.
If perhaps you’re selling Healthy Juices, your target audience will most likely be people who have a healthy lifestyle and are aware of the importance of your product. When starting your marketing campaign, your focus will be on this group of people. But you might also want to target people who don’t have this lifestyle, and inspire them to change their mindset. It’s all based on who you want to focus on.
4. Keep it simple
I understand that when starting your business the feeling of excitement can let your idea snowball into something overcomplicated. You could end up with something a lot different than intended. Keep your idea simple. Start small and narrow your focus. Cut anything that’s not important in the first phase which forces you to spend money unnecessarily. As a small business you don’t need all the features of a corporation. It’ll be easier to add to your business as it grows.
These are a few simple yet effective tips that will help in the process of starting your own business. In our next blog we’ll go more in depth and talk about the cost and anything related to starting your own business.
